David Philipps
"Uncovering the Tragic Reality of PTSD"
We are making "invisible wounds" visible to the public with Guest Speaker/Author David Philipps.  You won't want to miss his talk about his ragingly popular book, “LETHAL WARRIORS - When the New Band of Brothers Came Home.”

Lethal Warriors brings to life the chilling true stories of Veterans—from their enlistment and multiple tours of duty to their struggles with PTSD and their failure to reintegrate in society.

By exploring the evolving the science and the stigma of war trauma throughout history—from “shell shock” to “battle fatigue” to “combat stress injuries”—Philipps shows that this problem has always existed and that, as the nature of warfare changes, it is only getting worse.

Drawing on harrowing prison, family and police interviews, Philipps takes readers into the action overseas, as well as portraying the heartbreaking drama unfolding at home, where soldiers are at a loss to readjust. With prose that is by turns gripping and moving, he sheds light on the broader issue of PTSD, which currently affects an estimated 800,000 soldiers and counting.

"A must-read for every American. In compelling and heart-healing stories, Philipps tells the story of the other war -- the one at home"  - Tom Brokaw

David Philippsis a features writer for the Colorado Springs Gazette whose articles have also appeared in the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, The Philadelphia Enquirer, and The Seattle Times, among others. His coverage of the violence at Fort Carson won him the Livingston Prize for National Reporting, and he was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. This book was a finalist for the J. Anthony Lukas Work-in-Progress Award. David has appeared on CNN, NPR, MSNBC and the Smithsonian Channel. He lives in Colorado Springs, CO.

SFC (ret) Mike Mills and Wife Suki Mills
"Family Strength... More Power than a Bomb"

Listen as SFC (ret) Mills from Minnesota describes his horrific journey from the moment the IED exploded, through the battle of therapy both physical and mental (PTSD and TBI), to the day he gained control.  Although Mike’s military career was done, he was not.

SFC (ret) Mills uses his journey and all it has taught him as a platform when supporting other veterans, families and caretakers through an organization he and his wife Suki created, FOR THE VETERAN...BY A VETERAN.

Suki will explain “STS,” Secondary Trauma Stress, or Secondary PTSD, which are the "silent traumas" that affect the family, friends and those who work with a veteran with PTSD, TBI and physical injuries.

The Mills will explain how the most painful moments not only changed their lives along with the lives of their two children, but also how their battle has helped make the difference for other Veterans and their families.
